Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📋

Work History & Roles

  • A detailed resume outlining your experience in autonomous mining environments
  • Position descriptions for control room or remote operations roles
  • Records of internal site-specific authorisations
🕹️

Operational Control

  • System logs demonstrating management of autonomous haulage or plant systems
  • Reports on system optimisation and performance monitoring
  • Evidence of maintaining continuity during shift handovers or system updates
🛡️

Safety & Risk Management

  • Risk assessments for autonomous operating zones
  • Documentation of situational awareness and dynamic decision-making during incidents
  • Safety audits and compliance reports for remote operations
📡

Remote Communication

  • Records of collaborative communication within a distributed value chain
  • Evidence of effective remote instruction to site personnel
  • Participation in quality outcome meetings or remote briefings

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is the Cert IV in Autonomous Control currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) who can deliver this specific mining qualification. At this stage, we are accepting registrations of interest from experienced operators.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest ensures you are the first to be notified when an RTO partner is secured. It also allows us to begin an initial review of your experience so you are well-positioned for the recognition process once it opens.
Is RPL the same as studying for this qualification?
No. Recognition of Prior Learning is an assessment-only pathway. It acknowledges that you have already acquired the skills through your work in the mining industry, rather than requiring you to repeat training for things you already know.
What kind of experience is required for this qualification?
This qualification is designed for individuals working in control centre environments who manage automated operations, utilise complex control systems, and manage safety risks through situational awareness and remote communication.
Does my manufacturer-specific training count towards RPL?
Yes. Internal training and certifications from manufacturers like Caterpillar, Komatsu, or Hitachi are valuable forms of evidence that can demonstrate your competency in specific autonomous systems.
