Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📋

Work History & Roles

  • Comprehensive resume highlighting shopfitting projects
  • Detailed employer references confirming technical competency
  • Position descriptions from commercial fit-out roles
🛠️

Fabrication & Assembly

  • Photos or videos of shopfront structure assembly
  • Records of CNC machine operation and component fabrication
  • Evidence of applying decorative trims and additions
📐

Plans & Specifications

  • Marked-up construction plans and shop drawings
  • Material cutting lists and site measurement records
  • Documentation of levelling operations for internal units
🏗️

On-site Installation

  • Photos of installed internal shop walls and partitions
  • Evidence of fixing prefabricated internal units
  • Safe work method statements (SWMS) for site installations

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of vetting and establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in shopfitting. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open for enrolment.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge demand and prioritise the activation of specific qualifications. It also ensures you receive early access to the skills review process once our RTO partners are ready to begin assessments.
Is RPL the same as completing a shopfitting course?
No. While a traditional course teaches you new skills, RPL is a process of recognition for the skills you already possess. A qualified assessor from our partner RTO will evaluate your evidence to determine if you meet the national standard.
Do I need a White Card for the RPL process?
Yes, completion of general construction induction training (White Card) is a standard requirement for anyone carrying out construction work in Australia and is often a core unit within this qualification.
What happens if I have gaps in my shopfitting evidence?
If the RTO assessor identifies areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide a pathway for gap training. This allows you to complete only the specific units or components you need, rather than starting the entire qualification from scratch.
