About This Qualification
This qualification covers occupational outcomes for shearing at the professional level. This requires a high standard of workmanship at a rate of at least 120 adult merino sheep or 140 adult crossbred sheep per day.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Absolutely. A Certificate III in Shearing issued through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through an apprenticeship or classroom study. It is nationally recognised and meets the same industry standards.
What tallies do I need to prove to be considered 'professional'?
Industry standards for this qualification require evidence that you can consistently shear at least 120 adult merino sheep or 140 adult crossbred sheep per day while maintaining workmanship quality.
How do I prove my equipment maintenance skills?
Evidence can include photos or videos of you servicing handpieces, grinding combs and cutters, and logs that document your regular equipment maintenance routine on the job.
Do I need to have completed a Certificate II first?
While a Certificate II in Shearing is a common pathway, your years of industry experience can serve as evidence of the novice and improver skills required to move directly into the Certificate III assessment.
