Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this seafood qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partners who meet our standards for the SFI30319 qualification. Once a partnership is finalised, we will begin guiding candidates through the recognition process.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when the pathway opens. It also helps us gauge industry demand, which can accelerate the partnership process with relevant RTOs.
Is RPL the same as completing a seafood processing course?
No. While a course teaches you new skills, RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is an assessment of the skills you have already acquired through years of work in the seafood industry. It is a process of turning your experience into evidence.
Can I apply if my experience is primarily in retail seafood sales?
Yes, this qualification is designed for both processing and sales environments. If you have supervisory experience in a seafood retail or wholesale setting, your skills may be well-aligned with the requirements.
What happens if I have gaps in my evidence for certain units?
If an assessor identifies areas where your evidence does not fully meet the national standard, gap training will be provided. This targeted learning builds on your existing foundation rather than requiring you to start from scratch.
