What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

How do I prove my skills in temperature maintenance?+
Evidence can include daily temperature logs you have maintained, records of monitoring cold storage equipment, or employer testimonials confirming your adherence to food safety protocols regarding the cold chain.
Can I use my experience in specific processing tasks like shucking or filleting?+
Absolutely. Practical evidence such as videos of you performing these tasks, quality control reports on your output, and supervisor verification of your processing accuracy are all valid forms of evidence.

What happens after I register my interest?+
You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with the next steps, including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?+
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
