About This Qualification
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply the skills and knowledge to work in multiskilled operational roles in local government. These individuals possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement are required and are responsible for their own outputs.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Is RPL the same as studying a local government course?
No. While traditional study teaches you new skills, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assesses the skills you already possess. It is a process of documenting your existing experience as evidence of competency against national standards.
Does this qualification cover outdoor council roles?
Yes, the Certificate III in Local Government is designed for multiskilled operational roles. This includes both administrative staff and maintenance crew members who exercise discretion and judgement in their daily council duties.
What happens if I have experience but no formal documents?
Your dedicated guide will work with you to identify alternative forms of evidence, such as third-party reports from supervisors or practical demonstrations, to ensure your expertise is clearly communicated to the assessor.
