About This Qualification

Occupational titles could include: Gas fitter. This qualification includes units of competency common to other qualifications in the plumbing industry as well as gas fitting specialist units of competency and can provide a pathway to further learning and work in the plumbing industry. The plumbing industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered and assessed in this context. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. This is a licenced occupation. Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements may vary between states and territories. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📋

🔥

Technical Projects

  • Gas line schematics and mark-out plans

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will this qualification be available?
We are currently in the development phase for the Certificate III in Gas Fitting, building partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) who understand the value of trade experience.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest ensures you are the first to be notified once we have finalised our RTO partnerships. This allows us to begin a preliminary review of your experience against the 31 required units of competency as soon as the pathway opens.
Is RPL the same as completing a course?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment of the skills you have already acquired through years on the job. It results in the same nationally recognised qualification as a traditional course, but focuses on evidence of your expertise rather than repeat learning.
What happens if I have gaps in my gas fitting experience?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific areas where your evidence does not fully meet the national standard, targeted gap training will be provided. This allows you to complete only the specific units or skills you lack, rather than starting the entire qualification over.
Will this qualification allow me to work with LPG systems?
Yes, the core units of this qualification specifically cover the installation and commissioning of LPG systems, including work on marine craft, caravans, and mobile workplaces.
