About This Qualification
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who work in a regulatory role for an agency or organisation that has legislated responsibility for fisheries management. In this role, these individuals promote and monitor compliance with fisheries legislation for recreational, commercial and traditional fishers, and the general public. They exercise compliance powers to enforce laws related to fisheries management and other associated legislation and may have statutory titles such as fisheries officers, compliance officers, inspectors or wardens. All work is carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, food safety, biosecurity and environmental regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace. Licences will be required if operating vessels and vehicles. The MAR units that appear in the elective bank are subject to licencing and regulatory requirements. These units must be implemented in line with the requirements of the MAR Maritime Training Package and Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) requirements. Statutory/legislative requirements may apply to holders of this qualification and may vary across states and territories. Users are required to check with the relevant jurisdiction for current requirements.
