Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of vetting RTO partners to ensure they meet our standards for respectful and rigorous assessment. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open for enrolment.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering interest allows us to gauge demand and accelerate partnerships for specific qualifications. It also ensures you receive early access to the skills review process once a suitable RTO partner is secured.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
No. While traditional study teaches you new skills, RPL recognises the expertise you have already developed on the job. It is a formal assessment process where an RTO assessor evaluates your evidence against national standards.
What technical skills are assessed in this qualification?
The assessment focuses on your ability to install ELV circuits, program fire protection systems, and perform fault-finding on electronic apparatus in commercial environments.
Does this qualification cover environmental regulations?
Yes, it includes core units regarding the application of regulations to prevent ozone-depleting substance and synthetic greenhouse gas emissions, which is critical for fire protection work.
What happens if the assessor identifies gaps in my evidence?
If your evidence does not fully demonstrate competency in a specific area, the RTO will provide targeted gap training. This builds on your existing foundation rather than requiring you to start the qualification from scratch.
