Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL It?
We are currently establishing the necessary RTO partnerships to offer the Certificate III in Equine Hoof Care. While it is not yet open for active enrolment, we encourage you to register your interest so we can notify you as soon as the assessment pathway is available.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest helps us prioritise the launch of this qualification. It also ensures you receive early guidance on the specific evidence you should begin gathering to demonstrate your competence as a hoof care practitioner.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through traditional study. Because your experience is assessed against the same national standards, the outcome carries the same weight and industry respect.
Does this qualification cover traditional farriery and shoeing?
This qualification focuses specifically on hoof trimming, barefoot care, and the fitting of hoof boots. It is distinct from farriery qualifications that involve the forging and fitting of metal shoes, focusing instead on natural hoof health and protection.
How does the 120-hour work placement requirement work for RPL?
The assessment requirements mandate 120 hours of work placement. For RPL candidates, your existing professional work history in equine environments can often satisfy this requirement, provided it can be documented and verified by the RTO's assessor.
What if I have gaps in my hoof care evidence?
If the RTO assessor identifies areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide targeted gap training. This allows you to complete specific units or components without needing to repeat the areas where you are already competent.
