Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently vetting RTO partners for the Certificate III in Design Fundamentals to ensure they meet our standards for rigorous and respectful assessment. We aim to have this pathway open once we have secured the right partners.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to notify you the moment an assessment pathway becomes available. It also helps us demonstrate demand to our RTO partners, which can expedite the process of bringing this qualification online.
Is RPL the same as completing a design course?
RPL recognises the skills you have already acquired through your work experience, whereas a course is designed for those who need to learn the material for the first time. Both pathways result in the same nationally recognised qualification.
What kind of portfolio will I eventually need?
A typical portfolio for this qualification includes evidence of your creative journey, such as sketches, colour studies, and final designs that show you can follow a structured design process from brief to completion.
What happens if I lack evidence for a specific unit?
If an assessor identifies a gap in your evidence, our RTO partners provide targeted gap training. This allows you to build on your existing foundation to meet the national standard without needing to repeat what you already know.
