Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📋

Work History & Roles

  • A detailed resume outlining your technical experience
  • Current and past position descriptions
  • Employer references verifying your diagnostic and repair work
🛠️

Hardware Assembly & Testing

  • Photos or videos of computing device assembly and dismantling
  • Testing reports for hardware components
  • Fabrication logs for utility industry components
💻

Systems & Software

  • Records of client operating system installations
  • Software configuration logs for engineering applications
  • Checklists for software and hardware support tasks
🌐

Network Configuration

  • LAN setup and configuration records
  • Network troubleshooting and fault-finding logs
  • Documentation of network security and access protocols
🛡️

Safety & Compliance

  • Completed WHS risk assessments and JSA records
  • Evidence of applying sustainable work practices
  • Workplace safety induction certificates

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partners who meet our standards for the Electrotechnology Training Package.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest ensures you are notified the moment a pathway becomes available. It also helps us demonstrate demand to our RTO partners, potentially accelerating the availability of the program.
Is RPL the same as completing a computer hardware course?
No. While a course teaches you new skills, RPL is an assessment process that recognises the skills you have already acquired through years of practical work in the industry.
What kind of network evidence will I eventually need?
You will likely be asked to provide evidence of setting up and configuring basic Local Area Networks (LANs), including documentation of your configuration steps and fault-finding processes.
Will my experience with engineering software count?
Yes, experience using engineering applications on personal computers is a core component of this qualification and can be used as evidence of your competency.
How does the process work if I lack evidence for one unit?
If the RTO assessor identifies a gap in your evidence, they will provide targeted gap training to help you meet the national standard without needing to repeat the entire qualification.
