What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through classroom study. It is issued by a Registered Training Organisation and held to the same national standards under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Does my experience in a small independent workshop count?
Absolutely. Whether you manage the administration for a local mechanic or a large national franchise, your experience is valid evidence. The assessment focuses on your ability to perform administrative tasks within an automotive context, regardless of business size.
What happens if I have gaps in my administrative experience?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide targeted gap training. This allows you to build on your existing foundation to meet the full requirements of the qualification at no additional cost.
