About This Qualification
This qualification describes the skills and knowledge required to work in a broad range of roles in animal care facilities and services, including boarding/day care, breeding, shelters/holding centres, pet grooming, pet sitting and other animal businesses. Individuals in these roles perform a range of animal care tasks under broad direction which involve discretion and judgement in handling animals, selecting and operating tools and equipment, coordinating resources and problem solving.
Important: RPL It Australia is a student support service. All assessment and qualification issuance is conducted by the delivering Registered Training Organisation. RPL It does not deliver training, conduct assessments, or issue qualifications.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL it?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that offer the Certificate III in Animal Care Services (ACM30122). While we cannot facilitate an enrolment today, registering your interest ensures you will be the first to know when our guided recognition pathway is active.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering allows us to assess the demand for this specific qualification, which helps us prioritise which RTO partnerships to finalise first. It also ensures that once the pathway is available, you will receive immediate guidance on how to begin documenting your animal care experience.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification issued through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through traditional study. Both are nationally recognised and must meet the same rigorous assessment standards set by the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Can I specialise in pet grooming through this pathway?
Yes, the ACM30122 qualification allows for specialisations. If your evidence primarily demonstrates skills in bathing, brushing, and breed-specific grooming, your consultant will guide you in aligning your portfolio with the Pet Grooming specialisation requirements.
What if my experience is only with a specific type of animal?
The qualification covers a broad range of animal care services. During the evidence gathering phase, we will help you identify how your specific experience; whether with dogs, cats, or aquatic animals; aligns with the elective groups and core competency requirements.
