About This Qualification
This qualification provides knowledge and skills for initial work, community involvement and/or further learning. It provides a pathway to learn about work in the animal care and management industry and to assist with routine activities performed under close supervision in an animal care facility or service organisation.
Important: RPL It Australia is a student support service. All assessment and qualification issuance is conducted by the delivering Registered Training Organisation. RPL It does not deliver training, conduct assessments, or issue qualifications.

What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to offer the Certificate I in Animal Care Industry Pathways. While not yet active, registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when it becomes available.

Registering your interest allows us to gauge demand and expedite the partnership process. It also ensures you receive direct updates regarding the availability of RPL for this specific animal care qualification.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is issued by a Registered Training Organisation and carries the same national weight as one earned through traditional classroom study.
What kind of experience do I need for this Certificate I?
As a foundational pathway, experience can include community volunteering, pet-sitting, or work experience in shelters where you have assisted with routine animal care and handling under supervision.
Does this qualification lead to higher animal care roles?
The Certificate I is a pathway qualification. It provides the base skills required to move into more advanced studies, such as a Certificate II or III in Animal Care Services, which lead to specialised industry roles.
