About This Qualification

This is a general qualification for a person driving a medium/heavy rail track vehicle from one location to another over main line track. Is this qualification currently available through RPL It?

Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is issued by a Registered Training Organisation and holds the same national standing as one earned through traditional classroom study.
Does my experience with trackside signals count toward this qualification?
Absolutely. Identifying and responding to signals and trackside signs is a core competency. Your practical experience in interpreting these signals on the job is exactly the type of evidence an assessor looks for.
I already have my RIW card; how does that help?
A Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card is excellent evidence of your ability to safely access the rail corridor and follow work health and safety procedures, which are essential core units of this qualification.
