About This Qualification

The PUA20219 Certificate II in Public Safety (SES) is designed for introductory level community, volunteer and emergency service organisational personnel to develop the knowledge and skills required to assist in emergency response situations. It typically involves working as a team member, under direction, in responding to incidents, selecting equipment and applying contingency measures. Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL It Australia?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) for this specific public safety qualification. While not yet available for immediate enrolment, your interest helps us accelerate this process.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest allows us to demonstrate demand to our partner RTOs, ensuring that the Certificate II in Public Safety (SES) is prioritised. It also ensures you are the first to know when the RPL pathway becomes available.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through traditional study. It is issued by a Registered Training Organisation and meets the same national standards, ensuring your expertise is formally valued.
Can I use my volunteer experience as evidence for this qualification?
Absolutely. The SES relies heavily on volunteer expertise, and your on-the-job experience in emergency response, radio communications, and team operations is exactly the type of evidence used to demonstrate competency.
Will my internal SES training be recognised?
Internal training records are highly valuable forms of evidence. When combined with practical experience in the field, they help provide a clear picture of your skills for a formal assessor.
