Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for the Certificate III in Public Safety (Community Safety) be available?
We are currently in the phase of identifying and establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in this qualification. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering ensures you receive priority notification once a suitable RTO partnership is finalised. It also helps us demonstrate to our partners the demand for recognition in the public safety and community resilience sector.
Is RPL the same as completing a traditional study course?
No. While both lead to the same nationally recognised qualification, RPL focuses on assessing the skills you have already developed through your career. It respects your time by not requiring you to repeat training for things you already know how to do.
Can volunteer experience in emergency services be used as evidence?
Yes. Experience gained through volunteer roles in public safety is valid evidence, provided it demonstrates your competency in the required units. We help you document this experience so it can be formally assessed.
How do I show evidence of community engagement?
Evidence can include emails with community leaders, photos of you delivering safety presentations, copies of awareness flyers you helped create, or logs of community meetings you facilitated.
What happens if there are gaps in my evidence?
If the RTO assessor identifies areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide feedback. You may be able to address these gaps through targeted training provided by the RTO at no additional cost.
