Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

🏗️

Work History & Roles

  • Detailed resume outlining years of experience in concrete installation
  • Position descriptions for roles as an installer, grouter, or patcher
  • Employment contracts or letters of reference from site supervisors
📏

Installation & Bracing

  • Photos or videos showing the bracing and propping of concrete elements
  • Records of removing temporary supports according to engineer specifications
  • Site logs documenting the installation of load-bearing connections
🧪

Finishing & Remediation

  • Evidence of grouting techniques for vertical and horizontal joints
  • Work samples or photos of caulking and patching concrete components
  • Materials lists for specific grouts, caulks, and patching compounds used
📋

Plans & Specifications

  • Annotated site plans or erection engineer specifications you have followed
  • Records of basic levelling procedures and site measurements
  • Documentation of calculations performed for material quantities
🛡️

Safety & Compliance

  • Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for working at heights
  • Records of crystalline silica safety protocols and PPE usage
  • Current General Construction Induction Card (White Card)

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL It?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that have this qualification on their scope. We are not yet accepting formal enrolments for CPC20822.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when a suitable RTO partner is secured. It also helps us understand the demand for this specific trade, allowing us to prioritise our partnership development.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is issued by a Registered Training Organisation and carries the same national weight as one earned through traditional classroom study.
Do I need a White Card before I can apply for RPL?
The General Construction Induction Card (White Card) is a prerequisite for working on any Australian construction site. While it can be included as evidence, you must typically hold it as part of your core safety requirements.
Will I need to show evidence of working with cranes or riggers?
Yes. Because installation must be undertaken alongside licensed crane and rigging operators, evidence of your communication and coordination with these specialists is a key part of the recognition process.
Does this qualification allow me to work as a rigger?
No. Rigging is a high-risk work category that requires a separate licence. This qualification focuses specifically on the installation, propping, and finishing of the concrete elements themselves.
