About This Qualification

This qualification provides a pathway to the primary trades in the construction industry with the exception of plumbing. Trade outcomes are predominantly achieved through an Australian Apprenticeship and this qualification allows for inclusion of skills suited for entry to off-site occupations, such as joinery as well as carpentry, bricklaying and other occupations in general construction. This qualification is designed to introduce learners to the recognised trade callings in the construction industry and provide meaningful credit in a construction industry Australian Apprenticeship. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that are required in most Certificate III qualifications. The elective options are structured to allow choice from areas of trade skills as an introduction to a range of occupations.

Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL It?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) for this specific qualification. While we cannot facilitate assessment today, registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when the pathway becomes available.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering allows us to gauge demand and accelerate our partnership with suitable RTOs. It also means we can provide you with early guidance on the types of evidence you should start collecting from your current projects.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification earned through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through classroom study. It is issued by a Registered Training Organisation and is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Will this qualification help me get a trade apprenticeship?
This qualification is specifically designed as a pathway. Many of the core units are identical to those in Certificate III trade qualifications, meaning you may receive credit toward your future apprenticeship for the units you successfully recognise now.
What kind of projects can I use as evidence?
You can use evidence from basic construction projects where you have carried out measurements, used tools, or followed site plans. This could include residential renovations, minor civil works, or general building maintenance.
