About This Qualification

This qualification reflects the role of operators who operate production equipment or undertake similar roles to directly produce products. They operate production equipment within defined specifications and procedures and carry out a range of support functions. The operator will be able to apply technical and procedural knowledge to a defined range of situations and activities and be able to solve predictable problems by applying known solutions and will report non-routine problems to appropriate personnel. Products and components may be for commercial, industrial or consumer markets and be made from natural or synthetic polymers covering thermoplastics as well as thermosetting polymers. Production may be long runs of standard products, short runs, or ‘one offs’ of specialised products. There are no specific licenses that relate to this qualification. However, some units in this qualification may have licensing or regulatory requirements in some jurisdictions. Local regulations should be checked for details.

Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

🏭

Work History & Roles

  • A current resume detailing your experience in polymer production
  • Position descriptions showing your responsibilities as an operator
  • Performance reviews or supervisor declarations of competency
⚙️

Machine Operations

  • Machine setup sheets for injection moulding, extrusion, or blow moulding
  • Production logs and records of machine operation and monitoring
  • Maintenance and cleaning logs for production equipment
🧪

Material Preparation

  • Records showing the preparation of polymer materials to specific formulae
  • Documentation of mixing, compounding, or hand-mixing operations
  • Evidence of handling synthetic or natural polymers and additives
🛡️

Safety & Quality Control

  • Completed quality inspection checklists and product rework logs
  • WHS incident reports or safety hazard identification records
  • Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and workplace safety audits
📜

Certifications & Training

  • Current forklift licence (TLID2010) if applicable
  • First aid certificates or workplace safety induction records
  • In-house training records for specific polymer processing machinery

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL It?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) who can deliver this specific qualification. While not immediately available for enrolment, registering your interest ensures you will be the first to know when the pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest allows us to gauge demand and accelerate our partnership process with relevant RTOs. It also places you on a priority list for a free skills review once the qualification becomes available for assessment.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through traditional study. It is issued by a Registered Training Organisation and meets the same national standards, ensuring your experience is respected and valued by industry.
Does this qualification cover both plastics and rubber?
Yes, the Certificate II in Polymer Processing is designed to cover a wide range of materials, including thermoplastics, thermosetting polymers, and natural or synthetic rubber, depending on your specific work history.
What happens if I have experience with only one type of machinery?
The polymer processing training package is flexible. Your evidence portfolio can be tailored to reflect your specific expertise, whether that is in injection moulding, extrusion, blow moulding, or rotational moulding.
