Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📋

Work History & Roles

  • A detailed CV or resume outlining your time in electronics assembly or servicing
  • Position descriptions for roles involving electronic component maintenance
  • Letters of support from supervisors confirming your technical duties
🔌

Assembly & Fabrication

  • Photos or videos demonstrating lead-free soldering and component assembly
  • Records of fabricating or dismantling electronic utilities components
  • Logs showing the setup and checking of electronic assembly machines
🔍

Testing & Fault Finding

  • Job cards detailing the replacement of faulty electronic components
  • Test reports for direct current (DC) circuits and digital equipment
  • Documentation of quality and functional tests on assembled apparatus
🛡️

Safety & Compliance

  • Completed Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) for electrotechnology tasks
  • WHS risk control measures documented for specific electronic work
  • Evidence of applying environmental and sustainable procedures on site
📐

Technical Documentation

  • Work orders and schedules for electronic device maintenance
  • Records of using circuit diagrams and technical specifications

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL It Australia?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations for the Certificate II in Electronics (UEE21920). While we cannot facilitate assessment today, registering your interest ensures you are notified as soon as this pathway becomes available.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering allows us to gauge industry demand and prioritise our partnership efforts with RTOs. It ensures you receive direct updates and are among the first to be guided through the recognition process once the pathway is live.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through traditional study. It is issued by a Registered Training Organisation and holds the same weight under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
Do I need a prior electrical licence to seek recognition for this qualification?
No. This qualification focuses on extra-low voltage (ELV) electronics and routine assembly tasks. It is often an entry-level pathway and does not require a pre-existing electrical licence for the recognition process.
What if my experience is specifically in computer hardware assembly?
Experience in assembling, setting up, and testing computing devices is directly relevant to several units in this qualification. Your consultant would guide you in documenting these technical skills as evidence of your electronic assembly competency.
