About This Qualification

This qualification provides signing skills to communicate in Auslan on familiar and routine matters. Communication may take place in any situation including personal, public, social, employment and educational domains. The qualification aligns to an adaptation, for sign languages, of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), A2: Basic User. This is an Auslan signer who can: understand sentences and frequently-used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment)communicate about simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine mattersdescribe in simple terms aspects of his or her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need. The volume of learning for a Certificate II is typically 0.5 to 1 year. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL It?
This qualification is not currently available for active enrolment. We are in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in Auslan to ensure a high-quality recognition process.

Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?
Yes. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is identical to one earned through traditional study. It is assessed against the same national standards and is equally recognised by employers and institutions.
What level of signing proficiency is required for this qualification?
This qualification aligns with basic user levels (CEFR A2). You should be able to understand frequently used expressions and communicate about simple, routine tasks related to personal, social, or employment matters.
How is my knowledge of Deaf culture assessed?
As part of the RPL process, you will be guided to provide evidence that you understand Deaf protocols and can communicate respectfully. This often includes documentation of your involvement with the community or testimonials from Deaf peers.
