Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is the Advanced Diploma of Underground Coal Mining Management currently available?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to offer this qualification. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when a pathway for recognition of your experience becomes available.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering interest allows us to gauge industry demand and helps us prioritise which qualifications to bring online first. It also ensures you are notified immediately once we have a partner RTO ready to assess your evidence.
Is RPL the same as completing a mining course?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment-only pathway that recognises the skills you have already developed through years of on-the-job experience. It avoids the need for repetitive study by allowing you to demonstrate your existing competence against national standards.
What level of experience is required for this Advanced Diploma?
As a Level 6 qualification, the assessor will look for evidence of strategic leadership and management of complex, non-routine tasks. This typically involves experience in developing and maintaining mine-wide systems for safety, ventilation, and infrastructure.
Will I need to complete any training?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific areas where your evidence does not fully meet the qualification requirements, gap training may be provided. This is targeted learning designed to build on your existing expertise rather than starting from scratch.
