What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that can assess this specific qualification. By registering your interest, you will be notified as soon as the pathway is active.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge demand and accelerate the partnership process with relevant RTOs. It also ensures you are the first to receive guidance on gathering evidence once the qualification is available for assessment.
Is RPL the same as completing a course?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a different pathway to the same nationally recognised qualification. It assesses your existing skills and evidence against the national standard, rather than requiring you to study what you already know.
What happens if my evidence has gaps?
If the RTO's assessor identifies areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide targeted gap training. This builds on your existing foundation rather than making you repeat the entire qualification.
How do I prove my expertise in a specialist stream like Metallurgy?
You can provide technical reports, alloy development records, or project logs that demonstrate your high-level application of metallurgical principles in a professional manufacturing environment.
