Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

Work History & Roles

  • Detailed CV outlining engineering roles
  • Position descriptions for technical officer positions
  • Records of professional development and industry currency

Design & Technical Documentation

  • Electrical design briefs and technical specifications
  • Detailed reports on complex multiple path circuits
  • Modified electrotechnology drawings and schematics

Project Management

  • Project plans for large-scale electrical installations
  • Risk management assessments for engineering activities
  • Budget estimates and resource management records

Engineering Solutions

  • Evaluations of low voltage machine performance
  • Analysis of magnetic and electromagnetic devices
  • Computational solutions for engineering problems

Compliance & Safety

  • WHS audit reports and safety compliance records
  • Sustainability strategies for the energy sector
  • Evidence of adherence to community and industry standards

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of vetting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to ensure they meet our standards for the UEE62122 qualification. Registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when the pathway opens.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering interest allows us to gauge demand and accelerate partnerships with specific RTOs. It also ensures you receive a preliminary review of your experience so you are prepared when the formal process begins.
Is RPL the same as completing a study course?
The outcome is identical. Whether you achieve the qualification through study or recognition of prior learning, the certificate issued by the RTO is the same nationally recognised qualification.
What happens if I have experience but lack formal physics or material science evidence?
If an assessor identifies specific gaps in your evidence, such as the physics or computational units, the RTO will provide targeted gap training to ensure you meet the competency standard.
Can I use international engineering experience for RPL?
Yes, provided your experience aligns with Australian industry standards and you can provide documentation, such as designs and reports, that demonstrate your competency.
Does this qualification cover project management?
Yes, it includes core competencies for managing and planning large electrical projects, as well as developing design briefs and managing operational risk.
