Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is the Diploma of Youth Work currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in community services. While we cannot facilitate assessment for this qualification right now, registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when the pathway opens.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge demand and accelerate our partnership process. It also ensures you receive priority notification and a preliminary review of your experience as soon as the qualification is added to our scope.
Is RPL the same as completing a youth work course?
No. While the resulting qualification is identical, RPL is an assessment-only pathway. It recognises the skills you have already developed on the job, whereas a course is designed to teach you those skills from scratch.
How do I prove my 100 hours of work placement through RPL?
For experienced youth workers, the 100-hour requirement is usually satisfied by your existing professional history. We will guide you in providing third-party reports or employment logs that confirm you have exceeded this duration in a real-world youth work setting.
Can volunteer experience be used as evidence for this Diploma?
Yes, provided the volunteer work was performed within a structured organisational framework and aligns with the Diploma-level competencies. Your experience is valid whether it was gained through paid employment or dedicated community service.
