Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is the Diploma of Mental Health currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations to offer this specific qualification. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when we begin accepting evidence portfolios for assessment.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering ensures you receive priority notification once the pathway is active. It also allows us to provide you with preliminary guidance on the types of evidence you should start gathering from your current mental health practice.
Is RPL the same as studying the course?
No. While study involves learning new material, RPL is a rigorous assessment process that recognises the skills you have already developed. It requires you to provide evidence that your existing expertise meets the national competency standards.
How do I prove my 160 hours of work experience?
As part of the assessment requirements, you must demonstrate at least 160 hours of practical work. This is typically evidenced through workplace logbooks, timesheets, or a signed statement from your supervisor confirming your clinical hours.
Can I use evidence from my work in NDIS support?
Yes, provided your work aligns with the mental health competency standards. Evidence of recovery-oriented support, wellness planning, and trauma-informed care within an NDIS context is often highly relevant for this qualification.
What happens if I have gaps in my evidence?
If the RTO's assessor identifies areas where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide a pathway for gap training. This allows you to complete specific units or tasks to meet the full requirements of the qualification without starting from scratch.
