Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📂

Work History & Roles

  • Comprehensive CV detailing ICT or Defence experience
  • Official position descriptions from relevant roles
  • Defence service records or employment contracts
🏗️

Architecture Frameworks

  • Evidence of applying DoDAF, TOGAF, or similar frameworks
  • Architecture diagrams and structural models
  • Compliance reports and framework gap analyses
🛠️

  • Outputs from enterprise architecture software tools
  • Modelling documentation and technical specifications
  • Records of system configuration and tool management
📈

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will this qualification be available for RPL?
We are currently in the discovery phase for the Diploma of Enterprise Architecture Practice. This involves identifying Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that meet our standards for rigour and candidate support. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge demand and accelerate the onboarding of suitable RTO partners. It also ensures you receive early guidance on the types of evidence typically required for enterprise architecture assessment, giving you a head start on your portfolio.
Is RPL the same as completing the course through study?
The outcome is identical. A qualification achieved through Recognition of Prior Learning is the same nationally recognised document as one earned through study. The difference lies in the evidence: one pathway teaches you the skills, while the other assesses the expertise you already possess.
Is this qualification only for Defence personnel?
While it is part of the Defence Training Package, the competencies involved in enterprise architecture practice are highly transferable. If you have experience managing complex ICT frameworks in large corporate or government environments, this pathway may be suitable for you.
What frameworks are covered in the assessment?
The assessment focuses on your ability to use and demonstrate compliance with enterprise architecture frameworks generally. Whether you use DoDAF, TOGAF, or another recognised standard, the goal is to show you can apply these tools to meet organisational requirements.
Who performs the final assessment?
Your evidence will be evaluated by a qualified assessor from one of our partner RTOs. They will review your portfolio to ensure your experience meets the national standards for the Diploma of Enterprise Architecture Practice.
