Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📋

Work History & Roles

  • Current and detailed resume
  • Position descriptions from technical roles
  • Employer letters confirming engineering responsibilities
📐

Technical Documentation

  • Engineering drawings and CAD specifications
  • Technical calculations and data interpretations
  • Design briefs and equipment modifications
🛠️

Project & Maintenance Records

  • Maintenance schedules and planning logs
  • Non-destructive testing (NDT) reports
  • Operational procedures for automated systems
🛡️

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) for this specific engineering qualification. While not immediately available for enrolment, your registration of interest helps us accelerate the process.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering interest ensures you are the first to be notified once a suitable RTO partner is secured. It also allows us to gauge industry demand, which can influence how quickly we can bring this pathway to our candidates.
Is RPL the same as studying for a Diploma?
The standard of assessment is identical. While a student learns the skills, an RPL candidate demonstrates they already possess them. Both pathways lead to the same nationally recognised qualification issued by a partner RTO.
What if my experience is in a specific field like HVAC or Marine?
This qualification is designed to be broad. Whether your expertise is in mechatronics, marine vessel design, or mechanical maintenance, the RPL process focuses on how your specific experience aligns with the core and elective units of the Diploma.
How much work experience do I need for a Diploma level RPL?
Generally, candidates for a Diploma level qualification have several years of experience in technical or supervisory roles where they are responsible for planning, design, or complex technical problem-solving.
Will I need to complete any training?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific areas where your evidence doesn't fully meet the national standard, gap training may be required. This is targeted learning designed to build on your existing expertise rather than starting from scratch.
