Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this firefighting qualification be available?
We are currently in the exploratory phase, identifying Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) with the necessary scope and expertise to assess the PUA40319 qualification. By registering your interest, you will be notified the moment a partnership is finalised.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering helps us gauge the demand for this specific public safety qualification. It also ensures you are at the front of the queue for a free skills review once the assessment pathway is established.
Is RPL the same as completing the firefighting supervision course?
The outcome is identical. Whether you study or undergo RPL, you receive the same nationally recognised PUA40319 qualification. The difference is that RPL recognises the expertise you have already gained on the job, rather than requiring you to repeat training.
What defines a 'Level 1' incident in the context of this qualification?
A Level 1 incident is generally a localised emergency that can be resolved using the resources initially dispatched to the scene, where the supervisor manages the incident without requiring a complex multi-agency command structure.
What if my firefighting experience is with a volunteer organisation?
Lived expertise is valid regardless of whether it was gained in a career or volunteer capacity. Provided you have demonstrated the required competencies in team leadership and incident control, your experience can serve as evidence.
