What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?
Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.
You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of vetting Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that meet our standards for the Defence Training Package. By registering your interest, you will be notified as soon as a partner is ready to accept evidence portfolios for assessment.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering ensures you are at the front of the queue once the pathway is active. It also helps us demonstrate the demand for this qualification to our RTO partners, which can accelerate the development of the RPL assessment tools.
Is RPL the same as studying for this qualification?
The outcome is identical. RPL recognises the skills you have already developed through your work in psychological support. While a student learns the material, an RPL candidate demonstrates they already meet the national standard through their existing evidence.
What if my experience is from a non-defence background?
While this qualification is from the Defence Training Package, the competencies; such as psychometric testing and mental health screening; are highly transferable. We will review your specific work history to see if it aligns with the required units.
Will my confidential work be protected during assessment?
Absolutely. The RPL process is built on the same principles of confidentiality you practice. We guide you on how to redact or de-identify sensitive information while still providing sufficient evidence of your competency to the assessor.
