Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for this qualification be available?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in Indigenous Environmental Health. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open for assessment.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge demand and accelerate the partnership process. It also ensures you receive early access to a free skills review to determine if your experience aligns with the qualification requirements before you commit to the process.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
No. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment-only pathway. It recognises the skills you have already gained through years of on-the-job experience, whereas a course is designed to teach you those skills from the beginning.
What kind of experience is needed for this qualification?
Assessors look for experience in identifying community health needs, implementing pest control strategies, contributing to disaster plans, and promoting cultural safety within Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
Will I need to demonstrate cultural safety expertise?
Yes, as promoting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety is a core unit. You will be asked to provide evidence of how you maintain a culturally safe environment for community members and colleagues.
What happens if I have experience but no paperwork?
Our role as your guide is to help you identify alternative forms of evidence. This might include third-party reports from supervisors, statutory declarations, or practical demonstrations of your skills to an assessor.
