Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is RPL for the Certificate IV in Digital Forensics currently available?
We are currently in the process of identifying and partnering with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that have this qualification on their scope. At this stage, we are accepting registrations of interest to gauge demand and accelerate the partnership process.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to notify you the moment a partner RTO is secured. It also helps us demonstrate to our partners that there is a community of experienced professionals seeking recognition for their digital forensic skills.
Is the RPL process the same as completing a course?
No. While the outcome—a nationally recognised qualification—is the same, the process is different. RPL focuses on assessing the skills you have already gained through your work experience, rather than teaching you new material from scratch.
What happens if I have experience but no formal documentation?
Evidence can take many forms. While formal reports are ideal, a qualified assessor can also use third-party testimonials, practical demonstrations, or technical interviews to verify your competency against the national standards.
Does this qualification require a defence background?
While it sits within the Defence Training Package, the competencies are highly relevant to law enforcement, corporate security, and private investigative sectors. We welcome interest from anyone with significant experience in digital forensics.
