About This Qualification

This qualification reflects the role of workers who assist in conducting hearing assessments to identify potential hearing impairment and ear disorders. This may include hearing screeners, allied health assistants who support audiometrists and audiologists in health care organisations, nurses and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers.At this level, workers support the hearing assessment process by performing hearing screening and audiometric testing under the supervision of Diploma qualified audiometrists, audiologists, or other medical practitioners. They refer clients for further audiological or medical assessment, and may assist with care coordination, hearing device management and hearing health education programs.Workers at this level do not prescribe or dispense hearing aids, and do not work as independent practitioners. They may work in medical or industrial contexts.The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Is RPL the same as studying for the Certificate IV?
No. While traditional study teaches you new skills, RPL is a process of guiding you to demonstrate that you already possess those skills through your years of on-the-job experience. It is an assessment of existing competence.
Can I prescribe hearing aids with this qualification?
No. This qualification is designed for workers who conduct screenings and support audiologists. Prescribing and dispensing hearing aids requires a higher level of qualification, such as a Diploma or Degree.
Does my experience in remote health settings count?
Yes. Experience providing allied health assistance in remote or isolated settings is highly relevant and aligns directly with several core units in this training package.
