Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations to offer this qualification. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the pathway is open for assessment.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering interest helps us demonstrate to our RTO partners that there is a demand for recognition in this field. It ensures we prioritize the resources needed to guide practitioners through the evidence collection process.
Is RPL the same as completing a full course?
Yes. The qualification issued through RPL is the same nationally recognised certificate as one earned through study. The difference lies in how you demonstrate competency—using your existing experience rather than attending classes.
Are there specific cultural requirements for this qualification?
Yes, this qualification is specifically designed for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who are working within their communities to provide culturally safe primary health care.
Will this RPL process provide me with professional registration?
The RPL process focuses on the assessment of your skills for the HLT40221 qualification. Once you have the qualification, you must apply separately to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia (AHPRA) for registration.
What if I have clinical experience but no formal documentation?
Our role is to guide you in identifying and gathering evidence. This may include third-party observations, redacted workplace records, and practical demonstrations to show an assessor that your skills meet the national standard.
