What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Is the RPL process the same as studying for the qualification?+
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment-only pathway that acknowledges the skills you have already developed on the job. It does not require you to repeat training for areas where you can already demonstrate competency.
What happens if the assessor identifies gaps in my evidence?+
If an RTO assessor determines that your evidence does not fully cover the qualification requirements, they will identify specific areas for gap training. This allows you to complete only the necessary components to achieve your qualification.

You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with the next steps, including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?+
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
