Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is RPL for the Certificate III in Process Plant Operations currently available?
We are currently in the process of identifying RTO partners who meet our standards for this specific qualification. Registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when a guided recognition pathway becomes available for operators in your sector.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering allows us to gauge demand and accelerate our partnership process with relevant RTOs. It also gives us the opportunity to review your experience early, ensuring you are well-positioned for the recognition process once it launches.
Is RPL the same as completing a training course?
No. While a course teaches you new skills, RPL recognises the expertise you already possess. It is a formal assessment of your existing competence against national standards, requiring evidence of your work history rather than classroom attendance.
What if I don't have all the documentation from my current plant?
Your guide will work with you to identify alternative forms of evidence that demonstrate your competency. This might include statutory declarations, third-party reports from supervisors, or documented practical observations of your work on-site.
What happens if the assessor identifies gaps in my experience?
If the RTO's assessor identifies specific units where your evidence is insufficient, they will provide targeted gap training. This ensures you can meet the full requirements of the qualification by building on your existing foundation rather than starting over.
