Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

  • A detailed resume outlining your forestry experience
  • Position descriptions from current or past employers

🚜

Operational Records

  • Equipment maintenance logs and pre-start checklists

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for the Certificate III in Forest Operations be available?
We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting RTO partners who meet our standards for this specific forestry qualification. While it is not available for immediate enrolment, registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when the pathway opens.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to gauge industry demand, which helps us fast-track partnerships with the right training organisations. It also allows us to provide you with preliminary guidance on evidence collection while we finalise the assessment pathway.
Is RPL the same as completing a forestry course?
RPL is a different pathway to the same nationally recognised qualification. While traditional study teaches you new skills, RPL recognises the skills you have already mastered through years of work in the forest and wood products industry.
What kind of forestry experience is most relevant?
Experience across Forest Nursery Production, Silviculture, or Timber Harvesting and Haulage is highly relevant. The assessment will look for your ability to work under limited supervision while adhering to strict environmental and safety standards.
Will my chainsaw or plant tickets count as evidence?
Yes, existing tickets and certifications for specific machinery or manual felling are excellent forms of evidence. They demonstrate that your technical skills have already been validated in a practical, operational context.
