About This Qualification

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use a range of events administration or operational skills and knowledge to complete event-related work activities. Using discretion and judgement, they work with some independence under the guidance of more senior event personnel, using plans, policies and procedures to guide work activities. Events are diverse in nature and this qualification provides a pathway to work for event or exhibition organisations operating in a range of industries including the tourism and travel, hospitality, sport, cultural and community sectors. The diversity of employers includes event or exhibition management companies, event venues, or organisations that organise their own events. Work could be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of events takes place, on-site at venues where events are staged or a combination of both. The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

🗓️

Event Planning & Logistics

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

When will RPL for the Certificate III in Events be available?
We are currently in the process of auditing and establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that specialise in the events industry. This ensures that when we launch, you are guided by assessors who truly understand the complexities of your work.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to keep you informed of our progress. You will be among the first to be notified when the pathway is open, ensuring your prior investment of time in the industry is honoured as soon as possible.
Is RPL for events the same as completing a course?
The outcome is identical. RPL assesses your existing skills against the same national standards as a traditional course, but it recognises that you have already done the work on the ground. It is a process of recognition, not repetition.
I work primarily in community festivals; does this experience count?
Yes. The events industry is diverse, and experience across tourism, sport, community, and corporate sectors is highly relevant. The RPL process looks for evidence of your ability to support event production regardless of the specific sector.
What if my experience is mostly on-site rather than in an office?
The Certificate III in Events covers both administrative planning and on-site operational execution. Your experience in venue coordination and production support is a vital form of evidence for this qualification.
