Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

What Kind of Experience Counts?

If RPL becomes available for this qualification, the types of experience and evidence that would typically be relevant include:

📋

Work History & Roles

  • A comprehensive resume outlining your manufacturing experience
  • Detailed position descriptions from engineering employers
  • Letters of service verifying your time in production environments
🛠️

Operational Evidence

  • Logs or records of hand and power tool operations
  • Machine setup and adjustment records
  • Maintenance logs or equipment inspection checklists
📐

Technical Documentation

  • Copies of interpreted engineering or technical drawings
  • Completed quality control and conformity reports
  • Production schedules and computation worksheets
🛡️

Safety & Training

  • Records of manual handling and safety inductions
  • Risk assessments or Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reports
  • Evidence of providing on-the-job training to junior staff

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is the Certificate III in Engineering - Production Systems currently available for RPL?
We are currently in the process of identifying and vetting Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partners who can deliver the MEM30119 qualification. At this stage, we are accepting registrations of interest rather than formal enrolments.
Why should I register my interest now?
Registering your interest allows us to notify you the moment a suitable RTO partner is secured. It also helps us demonstrate the demand for this qualification, which can accelerate the process of establishing a formal recognition pathway.
Is RPL the same as completing a traditional apprenticeship?
While the outcome—a nationally recognised qualification—is the same, the process is different. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assesses the skills you have already developed through your career, whereas an apprenticeship involves a mix of new learning and on-the-job training.
Do I need to be currently employed in a manufacturing environment?
The MEM30119 qualification is specifically designed for those currently working in engineering production or manufacturing. The assessment process typically requires evidence of your performance in a functioning workplace.
What if I have experience but no formal technical drawings to show?
Experience is not just about paperwork; it is about capability. While technical drawings are a common form of evidence, an assessor from the delivering RTO will look at a range of evidence, which may include work logs, photos, or practical demonstrations, to understand your expertise.
