What Is Recognition of Prior Learning?

Recognition of Prior Learning is a formal assessment process that evaluates skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through your career against the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification.

You gather relevant workplace evidence and a qualified assessor from the delivering Registered Training Organisation evaluates that evidence. If the assessor determines every competency requirement is met, the RTO issues the qualification.

Is this qualification currently available through RPL it?+
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) for this specific qualification. By registering your interest, you will be the first to know when the RPL pathway is open for enrolment.
Why should I register my interest?+
Registering your interest allows us to keep you informed of the qualification's status and ensures you receive priority support once we begin processing applications for diesel engine specialists.
Is an RPL qualification the same as one from full-time study?+
Yes. The qualification issued through RPL is the same nationally recognised Certificate III in Automotive Diesel Engine Technology as one earned through traditional study. It meets the same Australian Quality Framework standards.
What level of engine experience is required?+
Assessors will look for evidence that you can dismantle, evaluate, and recondition engine blocks and cylinder heads, as well as diagnose complex compression ignition systems.
Do I need to demonstrate electrical skills for a diesel qualification?+
Yes, basic electrical competency is a core requirement. You will need to show you can test and repair basic circuits, batteries, and jump-start vehicles safely.
Will I need to provide my own tools for the assessment?+
The RPL process focuses on evidence of your past work. If a practical demonstration is required by the RTO's assessor, it is typically conducted in your current workplace using the tools you use daily.
What does registering my interest mean?+
Registering your interest means you'd like to be notified when this qualification becomes available through RPL. There's no commitment. We'll contact you when an RTO partnership is confirmed for this qualification.
Why isn't this qualification available yet?+
RPL It works with partner RTOs to deliver qualifications. We're currently exploring RTO partnerships for this qualification. Registering your interest helps us prioritise which qualifications to focus on next.
What happens after I register my interest?+
You'll receive a confirmation, and we'll keep your details on file. When a partner RTO is confirmed for this qualification, we'll contact you with the next steps, including how to start your free skills review.
Can I still do a free skills review for this qualification?+
Yes. A free skills review helps you understand whether your experience aligns with the qualification requirements, regardless of whether an RTO partner is currently available. It's a useful first step while you wait.
