Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is this qualification currently available via RPL?
We are currently in the process of establishing partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that can assess this specific police qualification. While not yet open for enrolment, we are actively working to build this pathway.
Why should I register my interest?
Registering your interest ensures you are the first to know when an RTO partner is ready to accept RPL applications. It also helps us demonstrate the demand for this recognition pathway to our partners, potentially accelerating its availability.
Is RPL the same as completing the police training course?
RPL is a different pathway to the same national qualification. While the traditional course involves learning new content, RPL focuses on the recognition of the expertise you have already acquired through your forensic service and prior police education.
What are the entry requirements for this Graduate Certificate?
Entry is generally restricted to police personnel who hold a Diploma of Policing (or equivalent) and have at least one year of full-time workplace experience in a relevant specialist forensic field.
Does my internal agency research count toward the research unit?
Yes, applied research conducted within a police jurisdiction can be powerful evidence. If you have developed or tested hypotheses to solve complex forensic challenges, those reports can be used to demonstrate competency in the research components of this qualification.
