Could RPL Be Right for You?

Experience can be evidence.

RPL is the process that helps you demonstrate it.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates the skills, knowledge, and experience you've gained through your career to determine whether you meet the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification. It isn't a shortcut — it applies the same assessment standards as any other pathway.

RPL typically involves:

📋

A review of your work experience against the qualification requirements

💼

Compilation of an evidence portfolio demonstrating your competency

👤

Assessment by a qualified assessor from a Registered Training Organisation

🎯

If gaps are identified, targeted training to build on your existing expertise

ℹ️ Important Pathway Advice

RPL isn't the right pathway for everyone. If you don't have substantial, relevant, and current industry experience, a traditional study pathway may serve you better.

Our approach:

“We'd rather guide you to the right pathway than enrol you in the wrong one.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this qualification and RPL.

Is the Certificate IV in Embalming currently available for RPL?
We are currently gauging industry interest and exploring partnerships with Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to provide this specific qualification. Registering your interest ensures you are notified as soon as a pathway is established.
Why should I register my interest for this qualification?
Registering interest allows us to demonstrate to RTOs that there is a demand for experienced embalmers to have their skills recognised. It also ensures you receive professional guidance on compiling your evidence early in the process.
Is RPL the same as completing a traditional embalming course?
No. While a traditional course teaches you new skills, RPL assesses the competency you have already gained through years of practical experience in a mortuary. The final qualification is identical and nationally recognised.
How do I prove my knowledge of anatomy and physiology through RPL?
Rather than sitting an exam, you demonstrate this knowledge through evidence of your work. This includes embalming logs, case determinations, and reports that show how you apply anatomical principles to real-world preservation tasks.
What happens if there are gaps in my evidence?
If an assessor identifies areas where your current experience doesn't fully meet the qualification standards, the RTO will provide targeted gap training. This allows you to build on your foundation without repeating what you already know.
Who conducts the final assessment for my qualification?
The formal assessment is conducted by a qualified assessor from one of our partner RTOs. They review your evidence portfolio to ensure your skills meet the national standards for funeral services.
