Build Your Career with RPL Qualifications in Construction & Engineering

9 October 2025

Australia’s construction and engineering industry is booming. From large-scale infrastructure projects to residential builds and specialist trades, skilled workers are the backbone of the nation’s growth. If you’ve been working in this industry for years but don’t yet hold a formal qualification, you could be missing out on career opportunities, higher pay, or even visa pathways.

That’s where Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) comes in. RPL allows you to transform your real-world experience into a nationally recognised qualification, without sitting in a classroom.

Why RPL Matters in Construction & Engineering

The industry is regulated, competitive, and often requires workers to hold formal qualifications for licensing, site access, or compliance. Whether you’re a tradesperson, site supervisor, or engineer, an RPL certificate helps you:

  • Gain recognition for your on-the-job skills.
  • Meet trade licence and industry registration requirements.
  • Open pathways to promotions and higher wages.
  • Improve employability across states and territories.
  • Meet Australian migration and visa requirements.

  • Resume (CV) – with full work history and industry experience.
  • 100 points of ID – including at least one form of Australian identification.
  • Current visa (if you’re not an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI number) and VET Transcript.
  • Proof of employment – such as employer letters, signed job contracts, payslips, or rosters.
  • Training certificates or prior qualifications – from Australia or overseas (if applicable).
  • Completed Student – RPL Form and work samples.
  • 20–30 photos of your work – mandatory for trades-based RPL qualifications.
  • 3–5 short videos (approx. 2 minutes each) – demonstrating your skills on the job (mandatory for trades).
